American Arbitration Association Commercial Arbitration Tribunal

Updated: Sep 28, 2020

This meeting marks Talking Business' first expansion west! This meeting, led by mentor Richard Spehr, included new virtual members from Seattle and Arizona high schools. This case study discusses the controversy over clinical trials. In this case, PeriCor Therapeutics is running a clinical trial for a drug they created that the defendant claims to be revolutionary to open heart surgery. Multiple respected scientists attested to the magnificence of the drug, but the trials were shut down before PeriCor could get a full report that the drug did not work. Throughout the analysis of the study, members questioned the effect of clinical trials, the amount of money put into them, the cost benefit analysis, the personal passion of the defendant to the practicality of how infrequently the drug would be used. This case taught tough decision making, critical analysis, and team refutation and discussion.
